FIRST AID

When the words “First Aid” are mentioned what picture is conjured up in one’s mind? A person immediately thinks of the little box  tucked away inside that cupboard at work or at home in some remote corner with a bright  red cross prominently displayed , containing the necessary bandages, burn kits, disinfectants etc  and etc  to repair any injury incurred.
But first aid is a whole lot more than a couple of Aspirins and Band-Aids to fix cuts and bruises.
Many schools offer courses teaching first aid to young children so that they are equipped to administer assistance in any emergency situation.
Many a life has been saved by some youngster who is educated in the art of CPR or is able to recognize a choke victim.
Babies have been delivered successfully under the strangest conditions by lay people who learnt how to perform the necessary steps which were learnt in first aid classes.
Sports events always have a resident nurse or person who can administer first aid if an injury occurs – so many people injure themselves while participating in any sport , whether it is rugby, soccer, tennis, - anything from sprains, to breaks to facial injuries.

First aid is usually administered prior to taking the patient to a hospital where more professional help would be on hand, to attend to the injury further
In the workplace it is imperative that there is always a first aid kit or an emergency first aid plans should an injury occur.
Catering companies have accidents all the time with workers cutting or burning themselves while on duty.

Factories have more sophisticated first aid equipment on hand to handle injuries of a more serious nature which could occur while workers are on duty,
Fishermen, too, have to know how to administer first aid should an injury occur while out at sea.
Fist aid in the home is also important, and anyone looking after small children or the elderly should be equipped with a good general knowledge of first aid as you never know when it might be necessary to utilize your first aid knowledge.
